A Pelvic Health consultation places a heavy focus on Pelvic Floor complaints; both primary & secondary. Similar to that of other consults a Pelvic Health consult is comprised of assessment, osteopathic manual therapy (hands on treatment techniques external only), rehabilitation exercises, management strategies and education.
We allow an hour for all initial Pelvic Health consults. Similar to that of a traditional appointment, your Osteopath will spend the first portion of the consult taking a thorough history of your pelvic health (past and present) as well as your overall health. We’re all unique and no one story is the same! This extensive history taking allows the Osteopath to have a better understanding of you so as to provide a tailored and appropriate course of care that aligns with your needs & goals.
A full body movement assessment similar to a standard consult is completed with additional tests and examinations directly related to the pelvis. This can include movement assessments and palpation of the pelvis (hands on techniques assessing for any joint restrictions, muscle tightness etc.).
- Prior to the completion of any assessments all procedures will be explained using visuals including pelvic models, anatomy pictures/texts etc. to demonstrate what the Osteopath is treating, how and why.
At any time, you as a patient may request for your Osteopath to cease, and your Osteopath can provide a different type of assessment or completely cease the assessment with your consent.
After the completion of the assessment a working diagnosis and explanation regarding the findings and expected outcomes will be discussed with you. Using a pelvic model and/or anatomy pictures/texts your Osteopath will demonstrate recommended treatment options for you with all benefits explained.
Areas commonly treated in Pelvic Health consults include but are not limited to; pelvic, thoracic and lumbar spine, head/neck/jaw (TMJ) & lower limbs.
During and after treatment a full management plan will be completed with you- this includes any rehabilitation and management strategies to help between appointments. This programme is individually tailored per person with unique programmes links sent out within 48hours of appointment unless specified otherwise.
All subsequent consultations follow a similar role as standard osteopathic consults. The return consults allow for a review initially to assess how you have responded from treatment and what has been working well between. If needed at any point further investigations and/or management options may look like:
- The use of a bladder and/or bowel diary
- Pad weight test
- Further referral for other investigations
